Vacation Day 1 San Jose to Las Vegas

Our vacation is going great. We left home around 9am on Friday and made it to Las Vegas (with only one slight delay on highway 5) by about 6pm. Las Vegas was hot, still about 106 degrees when we got to our hotel at 7pm. We had a great time in Vegas we stayed at the Golden Nugget, which isn't on the main strip, but on Fremont Street instead. The Fremont Street area is like an out door mall where several of the older casinos have partnered together to provide a "over the top vintage" experience. Here are just a few highlights of the day.

This is a picture of the traffic on Highway 5....see the people outside their cars, we were not moving at all. It really sucked!

Driving on the strip in Vegas, that's the New York hotel and casino to the left.

This is the Westgate Shopping Center on the right.

By the end of the day the even the teenager was ready for bed!

Way Too Hot!

I took this picture of the thermometer in my bedroom at 9PM this evening. I feel like I'm living in an oven. It's too hot to do anything but lay around the house.

I can not even force myself to knit, but I do have some pictures of a blanket I finished last week (with a lot of help from my Mom) for a friend who is about to give birth. It's my own pattern. I used size 13 needles and Bernat Baby Coordinates Yarn in pale yellow and white. I cast on about 140 stitches and then knit every row, first 20 yellow and then 4 white rows. I worked six of the yellow/white repeats then ended 20 yellow stripes.

Here's a close up. It's very soft and a nice weight (not that the baby will need a blanet in this heat). I am very pleased with the results. I would definitely make another!

Baby Socks Pure and Simple

I finally conquered my sock fear and completed a whole sock.

It's a sock for baby A. It's made out of Art Yarns Supermerino in colorway sm128 pinks on white. The pattern is from Pure and Simple. I used size 6 dpn which is bigger then the pattern called for so they are kind of bulky, which is fine since baby A is not really wearing shoes yet. The pattern is really fast to knit the whole sock only took me a couple of evenings and that was only because I started over a couple of times. I think the second sock will be done in one evening. I can hardly wait to start a pair for me!
